Take a day out in the Yarra Valley ...

The Yarra Valley has many fantastic places to visit and lots to explore.

Next time you have a free weekend, spend some
time discovering this great area! Head down the highway through Lilydale and past Coombe Estate, once the home of Dame Nellie Melba the world-famous opera singer, and now an award winning estate. Coombe Farm wines and the newly opened gardens, restaurant and gallery housed in the Melba Estate, offers a unique gourmet and cultural destination. Well worth a visit!

Get your foodie fix in Healesville- a regional food and wine hub surrounded by stunning scenery. Or if you prefer, you can experience wild life up close at the sanctuary where the birds of prey show is absolutely spectacular.

Back in town, Four Pillars Gin is well worth a visit. It’s built on the site of a former timber yard and has been transformed into a fully functioning gin distillery. At the Distillery Door you’ll find all styles of Four Pillars Gins for tasting and for sale. You can sample a long serving paddle of G&T three ways, or design-your-own Negronis or Ginger Mules. If you are fortunate, the day you visit there might just be a gourmet food truck outside! Go for a walk and check out the shopping precinct where you will find an array of interesting gift shops, galleries and food and wine stores. You can’t miss taking a trip to Alchemy Lane the home of Alchemy Distillers, a small batch distillery with a focus on creating world class whiskies. But they haven’t stopped there! They do gin and vodka too! The place has a cool vibe and you can get some great food and snacks at the little hole in the wall called Joe Slingers! The Yarra Valley Cellar Door is right next door and has been described as “a rustic and charming venue” which is no doubt in part due to the fact it occupies the same site as one of Victoria’s oldest bakeries. It is a unique wine attraction, offering visitors a chance to taste and purchase a wide selection of top quality wines from some of the best boutique Yarra Valley wineries.

If you have the kids with you, the Beechworth Bakery is probably the place to stop in for lunch and with Queens Park right next door it’s the perfect place for a picnic! The Maroondah Reservoir is just a short drive out of Healesville township and features gardens with native and exotic trees, native animals and birds and walking tracks. Its playground and lawns make it a popular picnic destination for families and you can even walk along the top of the spillway wall.

With plenty of guesthouses and B&B’s in the area, why not make a weekend of it and venture further, visiting some of the many wineries and the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie, a must see if you love chocolate (and let’s face it who doesn’t!). Allowyn Gardens is right next door and has stunning garden displays all year round.

There are just too many other great little places to mention here, so you will just have to come explore and find them for yourself! It’s a beautiful part of Victoria and a perfect weekend or day trip destination!
